Weddings can be expensive, but some brides and grooms take it to the extreme. BuzzFeed recently featured a story about couples who are looking for wedding photographers and other vendors to work for free or for very little compensation. One couple offered to pay for gas and food in exchange for a photographer to shoot their wedding. Another couple asked for a wedding dress, jewelry, and other items to be donated to them for their big day.
While it’s understandable that couples want to save money on their weddings, it’s important to remember that vendors deserve to be paid for their time and expertise. Wedding photography, in particular, is a skill that takes years to master, and photographers should be compensated accordingly.
If you’re planning a wedding on a budget, there are ways to save money without asking vendors to work for free. Consider having a smaller wedding, DIYing some of the decorations, or choosing a less expensive venue. And if you’re hiring vendors, be sure to pay them fairly for their work.
