The Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane will be opening its 2023 season with the classic Broadway musical ‘The Music Man.’ The show, which runs from June 15-18, tells the story of Harold Hill, a traveling salesman who tries to con a town full of gullible Iowans out of money with a promised boys’ band. The production features familiar songs like ‘Seventy-Six Trombones’ and ‘Ya Got Trouble.’ Ryan Reilly will be playing the lead role of Harold Hill, with Rachel Looney as Marian Paroo, the piano teacher/librarian who becomes Hill’s love interest.
Meanwhile, Crescent City Stage will be presenting ‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,’ a comedy by Christopher Durang. The play, which runs from June 15-30, is a contemporary take on characters and themes from Anton Chekhov. It follows three siblings who gather on their ancestral homeland and engage in chatter, laughter, and fights. The production is directed by Elizabeth Newcomer and features Doug Spearman as Vanya, Jana Mestecky as Sonia, and Lorene Chesley as Masha.
