Cloquet theater company opens ‘Women Playing Hamlet’ after delay and cast change

The County Seat Theater in Cloquet, Minnesota, opened its latest production, ‘Women Playing Hamlet,’ on Sunday, two days later than planned and with a cast change. The delay was caused by a cast member’s medical emergency, but the theater company was able to fill the gap with understudies. Becca Vork stepped in to play the role of Gilda, while Phoebe Applegate took on the part of the bike messenger. Both women also added to their existing roles.

‘Women Playing Hamlet,’ written by William Missouri Downs, tells the story of Jessica, who is cast as the star in a New York production of the Shakespeare tragedy. The play runs until May 28 at the Encore Performing Arts Center in Cloquet.
